A  proposal to require the firing of teachers who provide partisan classroom lessons is apparently dead.

On a 16-14 final vote Tuesday the Senate killed SB 1202 to forbid teachers from promoting any partisan doctrine or conducting any classroom exercises where only one side of a partisan issue is exposed. Foes said these are issues best left to local school boards.

That same opposition killed SB 1205 to make it illegal for teachers to use any language that the Federal Communications Commission would consider indecent or profane. And the Senate also refused to approve SB 1203 to forbid teachers from using any books or classroom materials that had not first been approved by the school board.
