The Festival of Lights Kick-Off party is back and expected to be bigger than ever. Organizers for the event are knocking on wood that the weather is a lot better than last year.

This Saturday, Nov. 27, residents and guests will be treated to the all-day event featuring musical performances, food and drinks and the lighted Harley Davidson Parade with more than 100 riders.

Dixie Prosser, administrative director for FOL, said last year the rain literally rained on the parade, among other things, and kept event-goers at bay for the most part.

"It started to sprinkle around 1, stopped for a bit, then picked up again at 4:30," she said. "But we looked at the 10-day forecast and it looks good right now. I think we're going to have great weather and a great time."

The first performance, by the Music Maker's Workshop, begins at 10:30 a.m. and the Harley parade caps the day off. In between are performances by Kyrene de la Estrella Marimba band (12:30 to 1 p.m.), FootKlan (1 to 1:20 p.m.) and the hometown Dr. Ron and the Painkiller (5:30 to 7 p.m.).

As always the Beer Garden will be overflowing, but with a slight twist this year. They will only be serving Arizona-brewed beer.

"It's kind of cool that we are doing this for this year," Prosser said.

The Marketplace Street Fair returns with a wide variety of homemade crafts that it is known for.

"In the crafting community, it's a very well known event that everyone tries to get into it," Prosser said. "It's always popular."

The FOL organization is still looking for about 300 people to volunteer in any of the four different three-hour shifts. To volunteer or find out more, visit the website,

For those who don't want to spend time looking for parking, there will be a free shuttle that picks up at Kyrene Altadena Middle School, 14620 S. Desert Foothills Parkway, and at the Ahwatukee Foothills Family YMCA, 1030 E. Liberty Lane. The shuttles will be running back and forth from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
