Thanksgiving is Thursday, and I can't wait! Thanksgiving, to me, always marks the beginning of the real holiday season. It gives us a little break from everything that is going on with our lives; work, school, events, and all the things that keep us so busy.

It affords us the opportunity to take it easy for at least a couple days, relaxing with family, and a lot of times getting to see family and friends we don't have the chance to see except for during these holiday breaks.

I start to get excited for Christmas this time of year, too. A lot of people barely wait long enough to clean up from Thanksgiving dinner to break out the Christmas decorations. I love setting up the Christmas tree Thanksgiving weekend, and taking out the Christmas music collection to become the soundtrack of the next month.

But I'm getting ahead of myself because we need to focus on what's still right in front of us.

Thanksgiving Day has got to be one of the best days of the year. How great is it that we get to take an entire day to think about some of the things we are thankful for?

Thanksgiving Day alone gives us all kinds of things to be thankful for. Sleeping in, spending the morning in sweats, watching parades and football, getting ready for the rest of the day.

And let's not forget the main event, Thanksgiving dinner! It's one of the great events that we have in our society that brings families together, with everyone in the family contributing something to the meal, lending a helping hand with a side, or bringing someone's favorite pie for dessert. Thanksgiving really is all about traditions.

This year, we are very excited to start a new tradition of our own. Our annual Holly Edition will now be delivered on its own as a special Thanksgiving Day issue. It's going to have all kinds of great information and previews for the holiday season ahead of us.

We'll have a preview of the Living Christmas Tree at Foothills Baptist Church. There will be some holiday recipes, decorating and holiday party ideas, as well as gift ideas from local merchants. And, of course, since it is a Thanksgiving Day newspaper, we will be able to bring you some great offers on deals that can help you scheme for how to best attack Black Friday.

So when you pick up your copy of the Holly Edition this Thursday and spend some time flipping through it, please know that we are thankful for your invitation into your home to be part of your Thanksgiving, as we are thankful everyday for your readership.

From all of us here at the Ahwatukee Foothills News, we'd like to wish you and your family the happiest of Thanksgivings.
