Phoenix police officers were investigating what might have been a human smuggling convoy that was seen acting suspiciously near 48th Street and Elliot Road around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Details were still sketchy, but Sgt. Frank Matsko did confirm that two of the seven men were being held for possessing what police believe are forged documents.

Five others were being detained until Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers could arrive.

In June seven illegal immigrants were arrested at Warner Road and 48th Street after what started out as a routine traffic stop on Interstate 10.
