With the upcoming fall season comes much-needed cooler weather and plenty of entertainment to keep Arizonians busy through the holidays.

Ahwatukee Foothills residents can kick off the beginning of the fall festivities this Saturday, Sept. 26, at the second Tukee Fest Rockin’ in the Park.

The family-friendly music festival will take place from 5 to 11 p.m. at Ahwatukee Park, next to the Ahwatukee Community Swim and Tennis Center on Warner Road and 48th Street.

Tickets are available the day of the event at the door. Adult admission is $5 and children’s admission is free. Every adult ticket purchased comes with a raffle ticket for door prizes that will be awarded throughout the night. Guests can look forward to winning coupons, gift cards, merchandise and goody bags from businesses such as LA Fitness, Madison Avenue Salon and Day Spa, the Melting Pot, Fry’s Food and Drug and from teams like the Phoenix Coyotes and Phoenix Suns.

Music begins when the doors open at 5 p.m. with the band Omniscient, a Horizon High School band featuring four Horizon students. Line Up will take the stage at 5:30 p.m., followed by A Boy Named Sioux at 7 p.m. B Platinum will finish up the night with a performance at 9 p.m. until the event ends at 11 p.m.

Food from Macayo’s Mexican Kitchen, Nello’s Pizza and Von Hanson’s Meats and Spirits will keep the crowd fed and watered. A rock wall and football center provided by the Army will offer some friendly competition while slides and inflatable bouncies will keep kids entertained.

Lisa Robinson, special event and rental coordinator of the swim and tennis center, said she likes to think of this as Ahwatukee’s own pre-Oktoberfest, beginning of autumn celebration.

“We do it for the community so people can know that they can have fun in their own backyard,” she said.

The weather should be great and Robinson said she is anticipating another successful festival, much like last year’s inaugural Tukee Fest.

Leslie D’Ambrosio is interning this semester for the Ahwatukee Foothills News. She is a sophomore at Arizona State University.
