Last October local beauty and health experts announced that they were teaming up to offer a free makeover for one lucky Ahwatukee Foothills resident. After the application and interview process the group chose Coralea Gosnell, and the transformation has already begun.

Gosnell was picked from 40 women who submitted photos for the makeover, and she is looking forward to the change the makeover will bring her for 2010.

“I had a really tough 2009, probably the toughest year for me ever,” Gosnell said. “I love watching the transformation of people mentally and physically in makeovers on TV, but I’ve never done something like this myself.”

The makeover will take several months, but Gosnell has already received skin treatments and started working with a personal trainer.

“I’ve been working out with my trainer Chrissy May, and she is physically and spiritually motivating, which has gotten me in a different frame of mind for the New Year,” Gosnell said. “I’m not going to give up on exercising or eating right because I know I’ll see results.”

In 30 days of sporadic workouts, Gosnell has lost 10 pounds. Changing her eating habits has been the hardest part of the makeover thus far for Gosnell.

“After an hour-long workout I want to go home and have a piece of cake, but I’ve been doing pretty well,” she said.

Gosnell also has received a series of chemical peels and microdermabrasions to help with sun damage and the overall texture of her skin from Darla Salem of A-Peeling Faces Skincare and Massage Therapy. Mary Rhind, of A Permanent Image, has performed laser hair removal and applied permanent makeup to Gosnell’s face.

“Permanent makeup is something I’d never think that I would do, but it’s actually natural looking and subtle,” she said.

Over the next few months Gosnell will continue to workout with May and receive dental treatment from Dr. Clint Boscamp. The makeover reveal is scheduled for April, with finishing touches including Adam Pink on hair, Sabrina Keene on nails, Dr. Alex Smith on eye wear and Stylique Boutique on wardrobe.

Gosnell’s family seems to be just as excited as she is about the makeover.

“My son is so excited to re-introduce his mom to all of his friends,” Gosnell said. “My mom is also happy, because she knows this is good for me.”
