Ahwatukee Foothills residents can break the rules of physics as they give and get at the same time with the new Phoenix Cares discount cards, in which people get great discounts at the places they love while giving back to various local charities.

For $14 you receive the Phoenix Cares discount card that is good at places like Jason’s Deli, Tropical Smoothie Café, Howie’s Game Shack and Club Tan. These businesses, along with the others involved, are referred to as Phoenix Cares Business Partners.

Seven dollars, or 50 percent, of the $14 spent on the card goes directly back to charities like the Child Crisis Center, Special Olympics Arizona, Habitat for Humanity and the Arizona Humane Society.

Scott Strubbe, founder of Phoenix Cares, calls these cards a “win-win-win” situation for the charities, businesses and people who buy them.

Phoenix Cares Business Partners receive advertising on the company’s Web site for $25 a year, there are between 50 and 55 businesses onboard.

To find businesses interested in participating, Strubbe started out simply going to local business owners in the Ahwatukee Foothills area to see if they were interested. In fact, 30 of the business partners are located in the Foothills.

“It’s a good way to advertise,” said Strubbe, who has been in advertising for the past 13 years, “And being able to do something where we can give back is always appealing.”

According to Strubbe, they have only recently begun marketing the card and that right now their main goal is getting the word out.

There are many great deals available with these cards, all of which can be seen on the Web site.

“You use this card once and it basically pays for itself,” Strubbe said.

With the holidays just around the corner this card is a great gift idea. It provides people with great discounts to the places they love and it allows them to give back to those in need at the same time.

“There are a wide range of businesses and charities involved so everybody can find something that interests them,” Strubbe added.
