The appearance of your skin, including the skin on your feet, is a reflection of what’s going on internally with your health. Dry, cracked heels are an indication that your body is out of balance, not an indication that you need an expensive foot cream or a pedicure. Dry, cracked heels are a very common problem that can be embarrassing and unsightly. Fortunately, the following remedies will result in smooth, happy, healthy feet.
I received a mystery package recently, opened it up, and discovered a popular appetite suppressant inside. Sprinkle this magic powder on your food, the included literature instructed, and allegedly it would cooperate with your sense of smell to curb your cravings. And here it was in my hands — a whole box of the stuff. But I didn’t order it.
Jude Law has always been a good actor, but he has never had a really great role until this quirky new film, Dom Hemingway, where he plays a cockney safecracker trying to repair his self-inflicted shattered life while still retaining his cocky swagger.
Candy making can confound even the most careful home cook. Luckily, Passover gives us an excuse to make a simple candy that is delicious and requires little fuss. And you don't need to celebrate Passover to appreciate it.
This could start in a “way-back-when” manner by comparing how much a gallon of milk or loaf of bread cost in 1944 compared to 2014 — it’s not even a fair comparison without adjusting for inflation. This could begin with a brief waxing about the nature of time and particularly relativity — how 10 or 20 or 70 years go by with little regard until the days end — but that doesn’t feel quite right either.
Besides pulse, respiratory rate, and blood pressure, a patient’s temperature is also considered a “vital sign.” The thing that makes a person’s temperature vital is that the body’s homeostasis, or ability to maintain all functions optimally, depends upon a certain range of heat. Most everyone can recite that the average body core temperature is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit with a healthy range being anywhere from 97 to 99 degrees. Temperatures that vary below or above this average create an internal atmosphere that is not conducive to the various systems’ functioning. The term “fever” generally refers to anything over 99 degrees. In order to maintain the healthful range, the body has a regulating system that kicks in much like any thermostat. If the core temperature starts to rise, we begin a cooling mechanism through sweating. If the core temperature starts to decrease, shivering will initiate warming through muscle contractions.
About once a month my daughter and I have a very sweet daddy/daughter ritual that we have followed for the last six years. Typically on a lazy weekend afternoon, we drive over to the Ahwatukee Foothills Car Wash off Ray Road and when we get the car washed we grab a delicious, all natural fruit Popsicle. I tend to go with the piña colada flavor, especially in the hot Arizona summers when I like to imagine being in a tropical environment. My daughter tends to go with good-old natural strawberry and the little seeds are actually in the Popsicle. My daughter reminds me of this fact every time we go and I respond with enthusiasm and amazement as though this is new information.
A TV show DVD set represents more than a holiday gift that’s easy to wrap. It also demonstrates respect: you know the recipient is mentally fit and couch-ready for a viewing marathon of “Dr. Who” or “House.”
“That movie would have been infinitely better if it had been shown in 3-D.” I cannot speak for the rest of the movie going population, but this is one sentence I will never utter walking out of a cineplex. That is not to say 3-D technology is completely expendable. With the right movie, 3-D can be effectively exploited and have an enriching impact on a cinematic experience. In a majority of cases though, 3-D merely acts as a shameful method for the studio to increase the ticket price. Some people buy into the assumption that 3-D makes a movie appear more realistic and integrates the audience into the action. When not properly executed, however, 3-D can have dark, dreary and distracting consequences on a film originally shot in 2-D. In that sense, 3-D not only robs the audience of an extra $3, but also takes them out of the motion picture.

Every once in a while an ages-old adage proves to remain indisputably true. “Never stick anything smaller than your elbow in your ear” is one such adage. We have been taught that rule ever since we were young, but who among us would dare to stand up and say they have NEVER stuck a Q-Tip (or other such small object) into one’s ear to scratch an irresistible itch or to clean out some annoying wax? As mundane as this topic could be, it happens to pose a very common problem. So, let us talk about cerumen, the medical term for term for the sticky stuff we call earwax.
