Arizona schools chief John Huppenthal sparred with his Republican primary challenger, Diane Douglas, Tuesday evening in a debate that focused on the state's new Common Core school standards but also touched on anonymous blog posts Huppenthal made that forced him to apologize.

In late January, Keystone Montessori welcomed 33 students from a school in Matadepera, Spain, on a student exchange program. Each student from Matadepera was paired with a student from Keystone Montessori, and they lived with him or her for two weeks, as if they were brothers and/or sisters. The goal of this exchange was for the foreign students to learn about American culture, practice the English language, and immerse themselves in American society.
Just a few weeks ago, Kyrene School District experienced a clear election victory for both the continuation of our Maintenance and Operations Override and our second ballot question to allow our governing board to lease, sell or exchange real property (our vacant land). We appreciate this strong vote of confidence and message of support from our community. While Kyrene has a total of 25 schools, 12 of them are in Ahwatukee, educating more than 8,000 students and employing nearly 500 staff members (many who live in the community).
Local progressive rock band, Gram Negative, will be performing in the 2013 Chengdu International Youth Music Festival July 25-31. The four-member group is made up of two Ahwatukee residents, guitarist Alex Sipes and drummer Chris Kontos, as well as by bassist and lead vocalist, Julian Weinstein, and Christian Merrell, who plays the keyboard.
Traveling to countries around the world like Israel, Japan, Mexico and Taiwan, a group of Ahwatukee students have been chosen as youth ambassadors for the city of Phoenix’s Youth Ambassador Exchange program.
Students from the Sacred Heart School in Tullamore, Ireland, visited the Seton Catholic Preparatory campus and showcased traditional Irish sports and music. Seton Catholic Prep’s relationship with the Sacred Heart is through the Chandler-Tullamore Sister Cities program.
