Not content to deal with domestic issues, the Arizona House has gone on record as saying the entire West Bank belongs to Israel and the 650,000 Jews who have settled there since the 1967 war “reside there legitimately.”
A foolish question? In the world of today’s politics, probably not. There are times when the patriotism of some of our legislators is questionable. Then, one must ask why would a legislator not be a patriot? Possibly because of a lack of understanding of our founding principles as set forth in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
Gov. Jan Brewer has appointed Patricia Starr to the Maricopa County Superior Court. Starr has been a Maricopa County Superior Court commissioner since 2011. Prior to her appointment as commissioner, Starr served as Capital Staff Attorney for the Arizona Death Penalty Judicial Assistance Project (2008-11); Assistant Attorney General for the Arizona Attorney General’s Office (2005-08; 2002-03); Deputy County Attorney for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (2003-05; 1993-2002); and Law Clerk to the Honorable Jefferson Lankford with the Arizona Court of Appeals (1992-93). Accordingly, her previous experience includes assisting trial judges with death penalty cases; handling insurance fraud, habeas matters, juvenile delinquency and civil commitment hearings; and representing the state in capital, criminal, juvenile and sexually violent persons appeals. In response to “President or dictator?” (AFN, guest commentary by Ahwatukee resident Don Kennedy, March 23) — aren’t we getting a little carried away here? If President Obama were truly seeking dictatorial powers, don’t you think there would be a large outcry from the loyal opposition Republicans? They would be screaming “ABUSE of POWER” with motions in Congress for Articles of Impeachment.
Obama Care is going full force. They have been signing a lot of people up, and the media is suggesting that the people will fall in love with it. I was talking with a friend and asked him what metric would you use to indicate whether Obama Care is successful. We never came up with a metric. If 20 million people sign up and receive great service, would that be the metric that we should use?
It has been almost a year since the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the South Mountain Freeway. ADOT is still saying it expects a decision to be made on the project by the end of 2014.
A safe place to play is something that many parents and kids take for granted, but in scores of communities across the U.S., there are inadequate spaces for children to get off the streets and play different sports.
Having had the good fortune of serving on the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Regional Council, representing either Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) or The Citizens Transportation Oversight Committee since 1996, I have witnessed over $1.7 billion diverted from Highway User Revenue Funds (HURF) to pay for other government programs. It is my opinion, now is the time to reverse these transfers.
If I were Gov. Jan Brewer, I’d want to know how the Office of Child Welfare Investigations, OCWI as it’s called, managed to hire an investigator to protect Arizona’s children who falsified his past about having been a police officer?
Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema has received the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Spirit of Enterprise Award. This award is given to members of Congress, regardless of party affiliation, for their demonstrated support of critical business legislation.
On Jan. 14, President Obama told us he had a pen and a phone and he wouldn’t be waiting for legislation from Congress before he used them to influence the economy and affect employment. He’s been saying that for five years. Why should we believe him now?
I was pleasantly surprised and pleased to read the March 16 guest commentary by Speaker of the House Andrew Tobin and Arizona Department of Public Safety Sgt. Jimmy Chavez (president of the Arizona Highway Patrol Association) regarding HB 2691 “Support HB 2691: Help DPS plan for the future.”
“To cover-up past global warming foretell, the Environmental Protection Agency, and leading Democrats, are now calling the late wicked winter snowstorms and cold weather extremes across the Midwest and Northeast ‘climate change’ caused by humans.”
Calling it an issue of “economic freedom,” a House panel voted Tuesday to force cities to allow residents to have poultry, a move one foe said means the state will “shove it down the throats” of nearby residents who don't want them.
