    Saturday, June 15, 2013 10:39 am

Most first-year club sports teams often struggle to find an identity. But that hasn’t been the case for Club SPAWN, a local baseball team that is ranked nationally. In its inaugural season Club SPAWN’s record is 69-22.

  3. article How will you hold up when your faith is tested?

    Wednesday, May 15, 2013 3:04 pm

"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on My account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:10-12).

  4. article TAX DAY 2013: We could celebrate if we had a simpler income tax system

    Friday, April 26, 2013 4:34 pm

Centennials are normally cause for celebration, a chance to applaud some thing or person standing the test of time. But not so for the income tax. Even the IRS is declining to mention that this year is the 100-year anniversary of the 16th Amendment of the Constitution, which authorized the tax.

  5. article ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ improves on first installment

    Tuesday, April 2, 2013 9:02 am

Although it’s not much, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” really deserves credit where credit’s due. Its 2009 predecessor was one of the dumbest action movies of the past 10 years. In this sequel, director Jon M. Chu of those “Step Up” movies makes an attempt to incorporate some humor, creative action sequences, and impressive visuals. That doesn’t mean “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” is a good movie, but at least it’s an improvement. The film could have gone down the route of the “Transformers” series, which only got worse with every entry.

  6. article Griffin: Can anyone seriously argue that the Iraq War was truly justified?

    Wednesday, March 27, 2013 10:49 am

No public figure has clearly articulated the true lesson from the 10th anniversary of the disastrous Iraq War. That lesson is a matter of logic. In weighing the war’s costs and benefits, we reversed the burden of proof. The war’s proponents should have been presumed guilty until proven innocent. Instead, the Bush Administration reversed that proper criterion, generally supported by the national press in placing the burden on skeptics.

  9. article Ryan: 'Charles Swan III' lacks focus

    Friday, February 15, 2013 12:00 am

Wes Anderson’s delightful “Moonrise Kingdom” became the indie smash of 2012 thanks to its blend of top-notch talent, clever writing and irresistible charm – a seemingly simple combination but a surprising rarity in Hollywood’s current landscape. It’s no wonder that it nabbed a well-deserved Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay, an honor that Anderson and co-writer Roman Coppola share.

  17. article ‘The Bourne Legacy’ breaks series’ winning streak

    Saturday, August 11, 2012 2:12 pm

Where most film franchises undergo a downhill slope with every passing installment, the original “Bourne” trilogy was one of the rare series that only got better and better. “The Bourne Legacy” regrettably breaks this winning streak, being the least impressive of the series. That doesn’t mean the movie is a poor effort. This is indeed a very entertaining, well-made chapter of the “Bourne” story. After the fantastic “Bourne Ultimatum” though, it stepped a step down the ladder.

  18. article Lunch gear goes stainless, makes food safety easy

    Saturday, July 28, 2012 2:47 pm

It’s entirely likely I spend too much time thinking about the lunches I pack for my 7-year-old son. After all, he probably spends all of 5 minutes inhaling my hard work.

  22. article Smith, Brolin rapport provides solid backbone for ‘Men in Black III’

    Friday, May 25, 2012 3:45 pm

The original “Men in Black” was a proper example of how to make a special effects comedy. With a knowing sense of humor, smartly written characters, and creatures that were gross, creepy, and funny all at once, “Men in Black” solidified itself as the “Ghostbusters” of the 1990s. “Men in Black II” had its moments. Much like “Ghostbusters II” though, that sequel basically just repeated its predecessor. “Men in Black III” is a fortunate return to form for this franchise mainly thanks to its inventive time travel plot. If “Ghostbusters III” ever gets made, one can only hope it’s as much fun as “Men in Black III.”

    Friday, May 11, 2012 8:45 am

I guess you could call me a lunatic. Not in a bad way, really, I’ve just always been taken with the full moon. So when the “Supermoon” was making this year’s debut I knew I was going to try to get an image of it, despite having to be late to two of my best friends’ 50th birthday parties. I knew they would understand as they know my passion for my work.
