Eight years ago, my daughter Jasmine asked if she could audition for the Ahwatukee Foothills “Nutcracker” performance. She was new to the world of ballet and dance, but I relented, and she was thrilled to get parts as a Baby Mouse and a Mini Bon Bon. And the next thing I knew, her Saturday soccer games now had conflicts with “The Nutcracker” practice — called “rehearsals,” I was quickly corrected. I kept hearing about how much fun Jasmine was having at these rehearsals, how many new friends she was making, and how she couldn’t wait for “Opening Night.” I didn’t pay too much attention. I just paid for the costumes, bought tickets for a performance, and occasionally picked her up after a rehearsal and raced her to her soccer game.

When you look at the big picture of life (or as my pastor calls it, “the whole shebang”) you see that there are three main players: God, us, and the devil (which is Satan and all his mini-me’s).
Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” was perfect pop pleasantry, full of back-to-back hits that were oh-so-fun and addictive, fused with humor, emotion and a hint of edge. How could you resist?

We all know that the Star Trek mission is “to explore strange new worlds” and “seek out new life and new civilizations,” so it’s only logical that the Starship Enterprise would eventually end up at the Arizona State Fair. On Aug. 10, I had the honor of leading more than 50 Pi Kappa Phi cyclists into the U.S. Capitol. The Journey of Hope this summer was the best experience of my life.
