This fall the city of Phoenix is offering a range of hikes meant to help hikers explore South Mountain with the expertise of a park ranger to guide them.
There are few stories as disheartening as those of Good Samaritans who come to the rescue of others — only to have kindness repaid with a nasty lawsuit. The first inclination for many is to help our fellow man, yet, as director of the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH), I’m often asked “should I help or stay out of the way?”
A Phoenix Fire Department spokesperson said the reasons people get stuck on local mountains is failing to stay on the hiking path and not being prepared.
The end of the school year is upon us and now the inevitable question is: “What are we going to do ALL summer long?” or the infamous: “I’m bored,” yes it is summer break! Parents are frantically searching for camps, activities, play dates, swimming lessons, movie days, etc. to fill their kid’s days to avoid the “I’m bored” trap.
