The Mountain Pointe Hall of Fame ceremony is always filled with stories told from memory, hugs reserved for long-ago teammates and inspirational speeches for the current students that focus the glory days.
Between “No Good Deed” and “The Guest,” September is really shaping up to be the month of home invasion/sleeping with the enemy movies. What makes “The Guest” much more interesting that other film, however, is that it’s not entirely clear if the home invader wants to be the homeowner’s friend or enemy. At some point in our lives, we’ve all had somebody we’ve wanted to get rid of, be it a school bully, sleazy boyfriend or boss. You might wish for a dark guardian angel to come to your rescue and take care of the person ruining your life. Recently, I woke up at 4 a.m. and drove to Oracle to welcome the refugee children who fled their country to escape poverty, violence, terror and murder. My purpose was simple and clear — I was concerned about the welfare and treatment of these innocent children. When I arrived, I was joined by 150 like-minded persons who came together to peacefully show compassion and respect for the rights of these victims whose countries were in terrible conditions. These conditions were caused by bad decisions made by adults.
Reality has a habit of raining down hard and melting away the comforts formed by the kindness of imagination and the vagaries of memory.
