  1. article Letter: Fox News, more than just hot air

    Friday, March 1, 2013 2:49 pm

Yes, it snowed in the Phoenix metro area last week, a phenomenon that caused weather forecasters to run with glee to report former records and caused our snowbirds to wonder why they escaped Minnesota to enjoy our sunshine. Yet, slow down, everyone … global warming is REAL.

  2. article American voters are ‘Fired Up...Ready to Go’

    Friday, November 23, 2012 2:00 pm

I am so tempted to write the words “I told you so” over and over again up to the 500-word limit allowed for a commentary in this newspaper. It would be so easy to gloat about how liberals won and conservatives lost. It would make me giddy to point out how Arizona is so out-of-touch with the rest of the Left Coast.

  3. article We’ll believe anything that conforms to our world view, contrary to the facts

    Wednesday, September 5, 2012 3:00 pm

Are you as depressed as I am? No, not about the D-Backs’ up and mostly down season and not about the Cardinals’ inability to find a quarterback or a line to protect him. No, I’m depressed about this year’s election, the most disturbing election in my memory.

  4. article A true patriot would have risked his own life

    Saturday, August 4, 2012 3:15 pm

Mitt Romney’s tough talk on foreign policy shows why we should always check the military service records of self-proclaimed superpatriots. Like Dick Cheney, John Bolton, Paul Wolfowitz, Rush Limbaugh and other Republican chicken hawks, Romney was a Vietnam draft dodger, whose five sons have similarly avoided military service.

  5. article The talk of shame: Daughters of God deserve better

    Thursday, March 29, 2012 1:16 pm

You might remember in last month’s column I mused about taming my tongue. I’d like to report I’ve got that problem licked, but it’s not the case. Beware; state publicly that you’re making an effort, and the dark side makes a habit of throwing temptation your way.

  7. Sandra Fluke on The View

In this photo provided by ABC, Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke, left, is a guest on "The View," Monday, March 5, 2012, in New York, after her stand on contraception coverage prompted Rush Limbaugh to deride her as a "slut" and a "prostitute" on his radio talk show. Interviewing Fluke, from right, are hosts Barbara Walters, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd. (AP Photo/ABC, Lou Rocco)

  8. article Kudos to AFN for being unbiased

    Tuesday, March 13, 2012 3:37 pm

Thank you for being unbiased in my local paper. I read through all the AFN stories and articles and appreciate your balance of a wide variety of opinions, especially when it comes to that of guest commentaries. I sure wish we could all come together and stand united in healing this great country, but freedom of speech is a part of our Constitution. I happen to agree with what Phillip Moon had to say (“Obama is waging war against the very principle upon which this country was founded,” AFN, March 7), but alas there are many that do not agree and therein lies that need to be unbiased.

  9. article Letter: Hypocrites run rampant on airwaves

    Sunday, March 11, 2012 1:27 pm

Hypocrite: A person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, especially one whose private life, opinions, or statements contradict his or her public statements.

  10. article The Vent: March 11

    Sunday, March 11, 2012 8:48 am

"I don’t understand why so many women today feel like they have to expose so much of their bodies for everyone to see. Why not leave something to the imagination and show respect for your body and yourself?"

  11. article Love that Obama economy?

    Friday, July 8, 2011 8:00 pm

C.W. Griffin's guest commentary of June 15 ("Limbaugh's colossal ignorance not limited to economics"), ridiculing Rush Limbaugh, should be used by all local schools as a prime and egregious example of an insipid and malicious ad hominem diatribe. His diatribe is presented under the guise of an economics criticism but degenerates instantly into a predictable personal attack, as if Rush is running for president.

  12. article C.W. Griffin certainly is angry

    Saturday, July 2, 2011 8:00 pm

C.W. Griffin surely does love to "tilt at windmills," particularly those windmills from the past ("Limbaugh's colossal ignorance not limited to economics," AFN, June 15).

  13. article Limbaugh's colossal ignorance not limited to economics

    Thursday, June 16, 2011 5:00 pm

Rush Limbaugh's economic philosophy has degenerated from a state characterized by his normal incompetence into a psychotic rejection of reality. Despite the statistics portraying the 30-year redistribution of wealth toward the rich, Limbaugh and his talk-show-host copycats have intensified their warnings about egalitarian redistribution of wealth from rich to poor.

  17. article Capitalism thrives under socialists

    Thursday, July 29, 2010 11:00 am

In their perpetually parroted charge that Democrats are "socialist, communist, Marxist," extremist Republican propagandists are guilty of either (a) outrageous lying or (b) colossal ignorance. By every basic measure of economic performance - GDP growth, employment growth, stock-market profits and federal debt control - Democrats are better capitalists than Republicans, by overwhelming margins.

    Sunday, July 25, 2010 11:00 am

The King has left the building. A few weeks ago NBA star LeBron James devastated Cleveland fans with his announcement that he's leaving town to play for the Miami Heat. James is taking his talent to the Sunshine State in hopes of capturing his first NBA championship.

  25. article Local family’s life includes drug addiction

    Tuesday, September 29, 2009 11:00 pm

Five years ago Beth Andrews’ life was on track. Her job was going well and her daughter and two sons were active in the church and community. She taught Sunday school and her kids participated in church activities and the annual Ahwatukee Foothills Easter Parade. One received an award for his initiative in starting a skateboard park at Mountain View Lutheran Church.
