One of the least publicized, but most significant results so far for the South Mountain Freeway (SMF) project is the final results of the SMCAT, or SMF Citizens Advisory Team. This team, picked by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), is a diverse group of organizations affected by the project and is intended to provide extensive public involvement and ongoing opportunities for community members to express opinions and concerns, a key component of the study process.

My wife and I have lived in the Lakewood community in Ahwatukee for 18 1/2 years. When we moved here in 1995 we still had an 8-year-old daughter living with us. She entered third grade at Kyrene de los Lagos, completing fourth and fifth grades there. She went through sixth, seventh and eighth grades at Akimel and graduated from Desert Vista in 2004.

Very few Ahwatukee residences want the South Mountain Loop 202 Freeway route that will denigrate our homes, noise, pollution and crime.

Although it certainly doesn’t feel like fall, the calendar reminds us that summer is officially over. As a result, family members of all ages may find they are spending more time in the car as they ease back into their normal routine.
Tom Hanks didn’t know where the cameras were.
Ahwatukee is a great community. We have special days for supporting our businesses. Now it is time for our businesses to support our community. They either support Ahwatukee or they don’t! Those who support Ahwatukee need to “put their money where their mouth is.” All others are supporting the greed of the transportation industry.
A stretch of westbound Interstate 10 between Sky Harbor Airport and the Deck Park Tunnel in Phoenix will be closed Friday night for maintenance work inside the tunnel, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, consider alternate routes and allow extra travel time while the following weekend freeway restrictions are in place:
Some urban hotels, restaurants and gas stations could soon get a perk now available only to their rural counterparts.
There's good news if you're among the thousands of drivers planning to head out along state highways over the Labor Day weekend, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. That's because ADOT is following tradition by not scheduling any construction-related closures over what is expected to be a busy travel weekend in Arizona and across the country.
Most dogs love going for a ride in the car. Cars take them to all their favorite places — the dog park, a daytime hike, up north to play in the snow, and lots of other great places. However, in order to travel to all their important social engagements dogs must be properly restrained to keep them safe.
Droves of Arizonans are planning to send-off summer with labor-less getaways, according to AAA.
As we go about our daily commute and our lives, we don’t often give much thought to the roads that get us there.
Turning 16 used to be one of the most important stepping stones in a teen’s life. It meant the rite of passage to get behind the wheel of a car. Well, times are changing as more teens are holding off on getting their driver’s licenses for a variety of reasons.
Part of Loop 303 will be closed in the West Valley this weekend (Aug. 16-19) as work continues to convert the highway into a six-lane freeway, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Drivers are asked to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes while the following restrictions are in place this weekend:
While a few Ahwatukee residents have strong opinions about the South Mountain Freeway (SMF) Loop 202, one way or the other, a majority are totally ambivalent about the road. Like most Valley residents, they are hoping for anything at all that will ease their commute by reducing stop-and-go congestion on the Interstate 10. Most of us have been paying an increased sales tax for transportation projects since 1985 and any tangible evidence of our money at work is gratifying. Since very little of Ahwatukee is south of Chandler Boulevard, the impact on most of us will be marginal.
