Culminating the ongoing discussion between local youth sports organizations and the Kyrene School District over use of facilities rates, the district presented a lowered rate structure Monday that now heads to the governing board.

The Pony League Mustang Division Cubs team closed out its undefeated season with a big win on Nov. 19. The championship Cubs team was headed to victory by coaches Joe Butkiewicz, Mike Walker, Derek Harada and manager Todd Selman.
Ahwatukee Foothills has long been a hotbed for youth baseball. Hundreds of young ball players hit the diamond every year for Ahwatukee Little League. Hundreds more play with the Ahwatukee Pony League during their seasons. And still, hundreds more play baseball year-round with what are called club or travel teams.
After five strikes, 6-year-old JayC bunted the ball and stood still on home plate. The crowd cheered and yelled for him to run, and after some gentle one-on-one coaxing — off he went. Three outfielders waited for him at first base, but with an enthusiastic high five, JayC was deemed safe.
