Denial’s worked pretty well for me so far. But as I type with trembling fingers, reality is seeping in. Just after Christmas, my family is moving. To Seattle. I know. From sunshine to rain. But then, change is as inevitable as the lights that twinkle along Chandler Boulevard during the holidays each year. And so, I have to embrace one more in a long lifetime of transitions.

The Ahwatukee Recreation Center’s Women’s Club had its annual luncheon on Dec. 11 at the Grace Inn in Ahwatukee Foothills. During the annual luncheon the women collected dozens of stuffed animals, which will be donated to Arizona DES to go to needy children across the Valley. The group also participated in a raffle, the money from which will be used for a music scholarship for a local middle school or high school aged child.

So here we are, December, again. As I get older it certainly seems to get here faster every year. I feel like I was just chatting with folks about what may happen in real estate in 2013. It turned out we had some interesting things happen here in our market. The year started off strong with lots of appreciation and a great demand from buyers. The buying frenzy continued through June until it sort of fell off a cliff in the summer. When we usually see the October pick up, the government shut down for three weeks and that changed the typical cycle for that time of year. We had a nice increase in buyer interest towards the end of the year and from what we can see now the spring season will be typical for our area.
To better assist with student learning, Kyrene de la Estrella Elementary School has been seeking student volunteering from its neighboring middle school, Kyrene Akimel A-al, to help out during morning lessons.
