The record rainfall recently should leave NO doubt about why The Lakes Golf Course, built in a NATURAL drainage should remain a golf course (or a park or flood retention basin). But perhaps Pulte has plans for stilt homes or a Venetian style canal development.
The longtime funnyman has been making audiences laugh for nearly three decades, but that’s only a fraction of his repertoire. He’s also a film and television actor, co-owner of the Laugh Factory on Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip, a philanthropist, chairman of the California Latino Water Coalition and a hardcore Republican who supported candidate Mitt Romney in the last presidential election.
Generally, you feel better – more confident – when you’re sporting a new look. Sometimes, even the smallest changes can make a big difference in your attitude. Doesn’t your investment plan deserve the same kind of attention? After all, someday it’s going to be taking care of you! Perhaps your portfolio is overweighted in stocks. Maybe you’d like to spice up your portfolio with commodities. Whatever you have in mind, it’s always a good move to regularly review your investments and make decisions about your financial strategies.
The Old Testament Law contains 613 individual commandments. The majority of these are negative: “Thou shalt not” do such or so. These commandments prohibit activities ranging from coveting your neighbor’s cow to wearing pants made from two different materials. The remaining commandments are positive: “Thou shalt.” These order adherents to perform in determined ways and means.
Getting approval from 51 percent of neighbors to change the CC&Rs governing the closed Lakes Golf Course is only the first of many challenges Pulte Homes must overcome to build 250 homes on the land. Its next greatest challenge would be surviving the city’s zoning process.
Regardless of whether you’re a man or a woman, Social Security will not — and was never designed to — provide all of the income you’ll need to live comfortably during retirement. At best, your income from Social Security will supplement your other sources.
What do Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Cape Cod, Massachusetts, have in common? Besides the fact that they are both splendid, waterfront communities, probably not much. Except this: Seventy-five years ago this week, these towns were the first public release points for one of the greatest films ever. “The Wizard of Oz.”
Books are written to help readers change their perspective on life, to go after their dreams, and to help shape us all to become the people we are going to ultimately become someday. They are written to help us learn about the past, give us insight to current events, and to prepare us for the future. When children are given a book, they are given a key to another world that will help expand their mind and start to show them what their interests are. And what better place to exercise their creativity than by that of a bookstore.
There’s no denying that as aesthetic medicine has advanced into the mainstream by opening new markets and broadening the realistic potential base, patients have begun to demand better results, less discomfort, decreased risk and less downtime with the aesthetic procedures they choose to peruse.
As we approach the primary election, Arizona is in an envious place right now. Of the six Republicans running for the governor’s office, each of the four front-runners arguably have the credentials to become a good governor for our state.
I’ve made a habit lately of studying the Amish. I use the word “study” loosely as this is not a simple curiosity of mine or some kind of theological experiment. My exploration flows out of a deep respect and admiration for their faith and spirituality. We English (that’s what the Amish call us outside their communities) recognize them because of their familiar beards, horse-drawn buggies, fine woodworking, or barn-raisings, but there’s a lot more to this group than sturdy furniture and firm dispositions. They have a lively, vibrant faith despite their archaic lifestyles.
Recently, I came across the quote from the Chinese philosopher Lao-Tze: “Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become your character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.”
