When Mary's elderly mother, Lucy, had to leave the town she had spent her life in, and the home she loved, she was devastated. Mary had asked her mother, who was growing frail, with fading memory, to come live with her.
The U.S. Marine Corps is having a birthday in November, and some
local Marines are gathering in Sun Lakes next month for a ball and
fundraiser. The 236th Annual U.S. Marine Corps Birthday Ball will
commemorate the Corps’s Nov. 10, 1775, establishment by the
Peoria officials began the process of redrawing district
boundaries Monday with the first in a series of community meetings
designed to obtain feedback from the residents who could be
affected. “The goal is to get as much input from the public as we
can so we can take that with us through this process,” said City
Attorney Steve Kemp. The city is redrawing its district boundaries
due to the 2010 census.
Hundreds of Marines and their guests from the local area will
stand at attention and salute their comrades who have either just
returned from battle or who are shipping out to Iraq and
Afghanistan during the annual United States Marine Corps Birthday
Ball, starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Oakwood
Country Club at 24218 S. Oakwood Boulevard in Sun Lakes.
