In a sometimes testy exchange, candidates Arizona Corporation Commission traded barbs Monday night on whether someone should force the state's largest electric utility to say whether it's putting money into the race and how much.
In his hoop dancing and flute playing, Tony Duncan hears the nocturnal howls of the coyote as it mischievously darts from village to village searching for food, and he sees the twinkling of moonlight on river rocks and sees how that made the stars.
Republicans may try to block independents from participating in future party primaries after their turnout in last month's election — close to one vote out of every seven — may have affected some races.
Attorney General Tom Horne used more than $300,000 worth of state employee time and office rent in his unsuccessful bid to get reelected, the executive director of the Citizens Clean Elections Commission concluded Tuesday.
In December 2008, a passenger on a Virgin airline flight took a picture of the food that he was served on the flight and wrote a complaint to the founder of Virgin Group, Sir Richard Branson, bringing a whole new meaning to the tired stand-up comedian topic, “What’s the deal with airline food?”
Last Friday, I had the privilege of sitting down with young, up-and-coming author/actress Jessica Hickam, one of Arizona’s own who has decided to make her way in L.A. The firstborn of three girls, Jessica grew up in Tucson and graduated from Arizona State University. While Hickam noted that she was afraid to “leave the nest,” she did and has been flying high ever since. I was able to chat about her recently published book, “The Revealed.”
Global Warming (GW) is Climate Change (CC) caused by mankind. The only problem is that the people in the field refuse to conduct tests proving how mankind causes this. The environmentalists claim that carbon dioxide is the main cause of GW, but no scientist has shown proof of this. Professor Phillip Stott wrote an article in the Wall Street Journal, titled “Political Science.” Some of its passages are as follows: “Climate Change (CC) must be accepted as the norm, not as an exception. The concept of achieving a stable climate is a dangerous oxymoron.”
In Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness,” the narrator speaks of his instability caused by the fever dream of the jungle this way: “(It) was the playful paw-strokes of the wilderness, the preliminary trifling before the more serious onslaught which came in due course.”
Reality has a habit of raining down hard and melting away the comforts formed by the kindness of imagination and the vagaries of memory. However, it’s the kind of conversation you can’t afford to delay indefinitely. As your parents get older, it’s critical to sit down with them and talk about their health and financial well-being — before urgent decisions are forced on you.
I have started writing this month’s article over and over, but each time I end up scrapping the next idea and coming back to the same thing. Caring. We need to talk about caring. Somebody needs to know they are loved.
It’s hard to think of many actors from the past few decades who were one of a kind, but Robin Williams was truly a performing force unlike anything that’s ever existed. No one will ever be able to fill his now sadly empty shoes. The fact that his life was taken in such a lonely, horrific fashion after a long struggle with depression only makes this loss more tragic. For now, however, let’s focus on how Williams lived as apposed to how he died. What a life he lived and what an unparalleled career full of laughs, inspiration, and flubber he’s left behind. In honor of this great talent, here are my five personal choices for his best performances in film.
