The Bay Head School in New Jersey lost most of its music department�s equipment and supplies during Hurricane Sandy in late October. The school, which serves students from kindergarten through eighth grade, was flooded by about 7 feet of water.
There still is plenty of time to register for the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department’s full schedule of winter/spring 2012-13 classes and sports programs. In addition to its popular general interest classes, the department also is offering an expanded selection of youth sports programs and leagues. The department’s sports leagues and clinics are designed as a low-cost way to introduce kids to organized sports in a fun environment in which everyone plays. Sports leagues and clinics are available throughout the city. Registration is available online from the Classes and Programs link at phoenix.gov/parks.
NEWTOWN, Conn. — A man opened fire Friday inside the Connecticut elementary school where his mother worked as a teacher, killing 26 people, including 20 children, as youngsters cowered in their classrooms and trembled helplessly to the sound of gunfire reverberating through the building.
Target Corp. announced it has donated $500,000 in monetary support and products to assist with Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. The donation will include $425,000 in cash and in-kind donations to the American Red Cross, $50,000 in cash donation to the Salvation Army, and $25,000 in gift cards to local Target stores to help with community needs.
