  2. article ‘Man of Steel’ is dark, serious and brooding

    Tuesday, June 18, 2013 1:09 pm

There’s no denying that Richard Donner set the bar for the “Superman” franchise with his 1978 film. The icy landscapes of Planet Krypton, John Williams’ vigorous musical score, Christopher Reeve’s iconic performance, every aspect of Donner’s movie remains definitive. Since then, most interpretations of Superman have either drawn inspiration from or paid homage to the original classic. One has to give director Zack Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan credit for taking “Man of Steel” in the complete opposite direction. Where Donner’s “Superman” was light, funny, and colorful, “Man of Steel” is dark, serious, and brooding. The film presents a vision of Superman that’s new and bold with a satisfying payoff.

  8. Food-The Cooking Lab-Grilling

In this undated photo illustration sausage is grilled using foil. Compared to other basic cooking techniques, grilling is hard: the temperatures are high, timing is crucial and slight differences in the thickness or wetness of the food can dramatically affect how quickly it cooks. Bad design choices by equipment makers, kettle-shaped grills with black interiors, for example, make it harder still. But if you're willing to do some arithmetic or break out a roll of foil, you can reduce the guesswork and get better performance from your grill. 9. Food-The Cooking Lab-Beefy

This Dec. 27, 2007 photo released by / Modernist Cuisine LLC shows seared steak. You don't have to go to some high-end steakhouse or shell out $200 a pound for ultramarbled Wagyu beef from Japan to get flavorful, tender beef for your next barbecue. Just keep three crucial factors in mind: the grade, the grain and the aging. A well-informed purchase and a couple of easy prep steps can make the difference between a so-so steak and one that sends your eyeballs skyward. (AP Photo/ Modernist Cuisine LLC, Nathan Myhrvold)

    Sunday, June 16, 2013 6:36 am

During Arizona’s hot summer months hiking is still possible, but experts agree that early morning is the time to be on the trails.
“At night the sun has baked on the asphalt all day long and as the sun goes down the asphalt releases that heat,” said Elizabeth Smith, park ranger at South Mountain Park. “Even though the sun is down and you may not have direct sun on you, it’s still hot out. In the morning it’s 80 degrees. I would suggest looking at what the temperature is throughout the day before you make your plans.”

They may not have been informed of this public hearing, but I have comments to make.
