I’m tired of reading Bill Richardson’s articles where he rallies against any sort of regulation over guns (Latest, “Gun-free zone is truly fatal conceit,” AFN, Dec. 11). His entire argument is to make good the enemy of perfect. He continually gives statistics about how individuals who want to do bad things will do bad things. I agree.
I just had to email everyone that I know that lives in or around Ahwatukee to read the “Gun-free zone (is truly fatal conceit),” by Bill Richardson in your (Dec. 11) Opinion section. All I can say is he covered everything you could possibly think of on this matter. Well thought out and written. And it’s so true!
In 1945 all of the industrial nations met in Breton Woods, N.H., to discuss currencies in a global environment. These nations decided that the American dollar should be the international currency, because it was gold backed, America was the leading manufacturing giant, and was a responsible country. All of these nations pledged to peg their currency to the dollar, as it was gold backed, making their currency gold backed. Things changed through the years, as in 1971 Nixon removed the gold backing from the dollar, showing irresponsibility to the rest of the world. America then started to expand its money supply from $800 billion to $2.4 trillion (in 2010). So, we made a conscious decision to inflate the dollar by 200 percent. Forcing all of the countries that were pegged to the dollar to expand their money supply, in order to keep the same currency conversions.
Calling the findings legally unjustified, the state Forestry Division on Thursday is challenging the findings of liability and $559,000 in fines by state safety officials in the deaths of the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots.
Horizon Honors graduate Jessica Laflin has continued to progress in her volleyball at Central College in Pella, Iowa. The 6-foot middle/outside hitter as she earned all academic honors for the Iowa Conference, while finishing with 161 kills with 58 digs and 29 blocks in 21 matches.
A classroom full of kids will have a merrier Christmas thanks to the generosity of clients at Body by Design in Ahwatukee Foothills.
From my records, the Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce (AFCC) endorsed a “No Action” (don’t build) position by its final vote as members of the South Mountain Citizens Advisory Team (SMCAT) in August of 2013. Their were 18 members of the SMCAT that voted for either a “build” or “don’t build” and of that number there were 11 members that voted for a “don’t build” and our chamber was one of them.
I enjoyed the AP (Associated Press) article on how “A Christmas Story” has become a part of our deeply-rooted Christmas tradition (“‘A Christmas Story’ at 30: Now part of the family,” AFN, Dec. 4). However, I was surprised and disappointed at the writer’s failure to mention the story’s author, who narrated the film and who also appeared in it as the gruff gentleman who directs Ralphie and his brother to the end of the line to see Santa at Goldblatt’s.
Reactionary Republicans — notably Rush Limbaugh — condemning the Senate’s limitation on filibustering as unconstitutional have, once again, displayed their colossal political ignorance. There is only a single clause, “Each House may determine its own rules,” (Art. I, Sect. 5) remotely concerned with filibusters, and it neither approves nor disapproves of them. The Senate’s action on filibusters was undeniably constitutional to anyone with high-school reading comprehension.
The holiday season is synonymous with tradition. But that doesn’t mean you have to fill your home with the same holiday decorations in the same color scheme every year.
While viewing George and Laura Bush being interviewed recently on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” I was reminded that we once had Presidents and First Ladies with class. It was refreshing to recall how they represented our country around the world with respect and dignity. Two people who can enjoy a joke and face up to negative press.
For years, Julie Fischer has devoted her life to trying to better young children in the realms of education and social behaviors.
While Leon does have a point with Obamacare’s navigators, I would think there’s a bigger problem. A website as buggy and incompetent as Obamacare’s site has to be wide open to hackers and it has all but advertised that fact. Well crafted, competent websites have security issues — this mess has no even probability of security or safety.
On April 25, 2013 I filed a personal lawsuit against the Ahwatukee Recreation Center (ARC), regarding continued forced membership and increased assessment payments to such a recreation facility which has been eliminated by a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) amendment, as a requirement to live in housing for older persons.
Recently I saw a story about 10 tons of marijuana being seized at the Arizona border, and I couldn’t help but think, “Why?” Why are our brave police officers and border patrol agents wasting their time on seizing marijuana when there are millions of dollars of dangerous hard drugs and thousands of illegal immigrants slipping through the border?
As executive director of The Arc of Arizona, an organization dedicated to serving people with disabilities since 1958, I see daily the impact of committed people joining together to advocate for the rights and community participation of people with disabilities.
Harry Reid invoked the so called “Nuclear Option” — a critical change in the rules of the Senate that provided a voice for the minority party. When Obama had control of the House and the Senate we saw him ram through Obamacare. Obama has three more years to exercise his agenda but is fearful that he may actually lose control of the Senate in 2014 due to the public backlash against Obamacare. His burning agenda is to stack the D.C. court with left-wing judges and place more liberals in key positions within the government. He has stated that he feels these nominees are being held up by the GOP via filibuster. So, getting rid of this provision allows Obama to act with impunity in regards to nominees thus ensuring that he can place liberals in any position he wishes.
When thinking of health care one must remember that Obamacare uses Cost Benefit Analysis when deciding how to treat you. This means that different options for treatment are considered, but cost and age are plugged into their equation to determine, not what is best for you, but what Obamacare is going to do. They select the cheapest option for your care. They have a limit on the treatment cost. It is something like $22,000 for six months.
I was born on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, 1926. I tell people I came out of a turkey but I’ve been trying to fly like an eagle all my life. So you can imagine my thoughts if God gave me one wish before I check out.
We have Obamacare, which can’t seem to even sign people up yet. I wonder what will happen when Obamacare gets going? The way it works is as follows: you go to your doctor about some problem that you have. Your doctor can’t diagnose, or treat you until he text messages the 15-member panel. The panel diagnoses your problem, then sends a treatment schedule to your doctor. He reads the treatment, and is required to follow this treatment, or he will be fined $100,000. His second offense will be a fine and jail time. If for some reason he doesn’t agree with the treatment he can send his opposition to the panel, then the panel will rule on treatment.
What do you think? Can porn be addictive? More mental health professionals are telling us “yes it can,” and further, it can be as addictive as hard-core drugs and it’s known to change the health of the brain.
Forty is a significant number in the Bible, and there are many instances of something happening for 40 days or 40 years. To name a few things that lasted for 40 days — during the time of Noah, it rained for 40 days and nights (Genesis 7:12); Moses met with God on the mountain for 40 days twice, first to obtain instructions for building the tabernacle and then to receive the 10 commandments (Exodus 24:18 and 34:28); the spies explored the land of Canaan for 40 days (Numbers 13:25); Goliath taunted the Israelites for 40 days until David put an end to him (1 Samuel 17:16); one meal gave Elijah enough strength to sustain him for 40 days (1 Kings 19:8); the city of Nineveh was given 40 days to repent (Jonah 3:4); Jesus fasted and was tempted by the devil for 40 days (Luke 4:2); after Jesus’ resurrection, He appeared on earth for a period of 40 days before ascending into heaven (Acts 1:3).
Tired of getting email solicitations from Nigerian princes and Romanian bank presidents promising you millions of dollars if you will only give them your birthday, your Social Security number and bank account information? Not to worry. Those pesky emails will soon become a thing of the past. Why you may ask? Well because you will soon be giving all that “private” information and “more” to Obamacare’s so-called “navigators”.
Here we go again. When Allan Greenspan was Fed chief he held the Fed rate to almost 0 percent for two years. This supposedly was to allow liquidity, allowing easy credit for everyone. The problem is that we don’t have a liquidity problem, we have a debt problem.
It happens all time; just not after the eligibility clock has already started running.
