Shakira is a sweet, female orange tabby, about 4 months old. She is fixed and tested. Shakira is a great lap kitty who is calm, yet playful. She will share a cage with her handsome ebony brother, Lewis, at Cactus Cats adoptions this Saturday, Aug. 30, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ahwatukee Petco, 5011 E. Ray Road.
1. Placing the litter box, food, and water in the same location. We wouldn’t want the bathroom to be incorporated into the kitchen and neither do our cats. Cats are fastidious animals and generally prefer to eliminate far from where they eat and drink. If they must be located in the same room, be sure they are on opposite sides of the room.
Rosie and Shakira are about 3 months old, and have big wide-eyed wonder at the world. A little shy at first, they warm up quickly and love to be petted, cuddle on your lap, or play. They have been tested, fixed and have their first shot.
One-year-old Crosby is an incredibly handsome little guy with bold orange markings and striking orange eyes. This sweet boy is very friendly yet charmingly shy at the same time. He warms up quickly though and turns into a total pushover once he knows you’re there to pet him or ring the dinner bell. Crosby is a very affectionate guy who loves one-on-one time with his people. When he wants attention, he’ll rub against you and softly head butt you to say hello. Purring commences immediately upon being petted, especially if the petting includes ear rubs and chin scratches. He also enjoys being brushed. His purr motor gets even louder when he scores the opportunity to snuggle in your lap. Whether he’s lying next to you, on you, or being held, Crosby will be content because he is with you. Hugs, kisses and conversation suit him just fine as well. He is quite curious — a trait that marries up quite nicely to the fact that Crosby loves playtime. He will play with just about anything you offer him. Dangle a toy mouse or stuffed toy in front of him and he’ll take it away from you only to bat it across the floor until he once again captures it and bunny kicks it into submission. Crosby is also a fan of swizzle and feather wands, taking great delight in capturing them and proudly dragging them to his lair. Attach a stuffed toy to the end of a wand and it is the best of both worlds— Crosby will skid across the room and fly through the air in his efforts to capture the toy. Crosby gets along well with other friendly kitties and enjoys their companionship.
Peyton, 1, is not only awesome because of his symmetrical face mask (orange muzzle with a white outline); but because of his incredible purrsonality — a purrfect mix between snuggly and silly. Peyton adores people and is only too happy to spend time with them. When he climbs into your lap, Peyton is most likely planning on being there for a long time. He loves chin and head rubs as well as belly rubs. Peyton likes being held and not only hopes for but has come to expect kisses while in this position. He is also quite conversational asking about your day and telling you about his.
Maddie is a super sweet 3-year-old gal with a super strong purr motor. She greets you the minute you walk into the room with a rub along the leg and if you sit down, she’ll follow that up with a jump into your lap for some snuggle time.
Fondue is quite the handsome boy. He is about a year old, great with other cats but probably would not enjoy the company of dogs. Fondue has a lot of kitten left in him, but don’t be surprised if he is timid at first until he gets comfortable. His shyness upon first meeting is probably why he’s been waiting so long for a home. Once he’s comfortable expect that he’ll be ordering up some belly rubs and provide you with some “silly kitty” entertainment. He loves having his head scratched, been known to cuddle with his kitty friends, and bird watching from the window.
Brooke is a 1-year-old quiet, sweet, pretty little Calico with unique markings and big, beautiful golden eyes. She’s a little shy at first, but it doesn’t take her long to rub up against you to request petting and love. Brooke enjoys attention and has a purr that doesn’t quit. She loves to cuddle, especially if there is a warm lap involved. Brooke is a cuddly lap cat when you want one or a soothing presence sitting beside you while you read a good book, watch a favorite movie, or catch up with a loved one over the phone. Brooke loves to play with swizzle wands, feather wands, and a string wand toy that has a red ball attached to the end of it. She’s also a fan of toy mice and little stuffed pillows/toys that she can bat around the room. After playtime, if her person is not available for snuggling, Brooke enjoys getting cozy in a covered bed or hanging out on top of her favorite cat condo where she can observe everything going on around her. Brooke is fine with other friendly kitties. This precious girl may be small in stature, but she has a big purrsonality and a big heart. She will make a great addition to any family lucky enough to adopt her.
Ha Ha Kitty, a beautiful 2-year-old Calico is a very sweet and loving cat. As unique as her name, she is the perfect combination of affectionate and independent. Being a Calico with a very quiet, very well mannered, very unassuming personality, she is the essence of what cat lovers say about an adorable Calico cat. For entertainment, she loves to find the perfect spot where she can climb high and take long naps between surveys of her surroundings. When she is awake, she loves looking out the window in her cat room and playing with toys. Can you give her a second chance at a new life?
Lynne Avril packs every summer to spend it in Paris. She commutes to work in Ahwatukee wearing her pink flannel pajamas, feeling the cool cement floor on her bare feet as she patters from bed to studio. She may sit with the morning sunlight warming her back and continue until her eyes grow tired from the bright glare of the lamp perched on her desk. Maxie, her recently groomed puppy, is snuggled on the white leather chair nearby. White pieces of paper conceal most surfaces with countless sketches venturing to show a story written by another. She expresses her thoughts with black lines and passionately coloring outside of them, endearing characters evolve. A teetering stack of paper plates splotched with carefully chosen paint colors are her pallets and labeled with names like Amelia, Ruby, Nellie Sue or Sadie. Just a few steps down the narrow hallway her front bedroom displays her work. Tall bookcases hug the walls, parading the colorful books she brings to life.
This spunky 1-year-old kitty is full of purrsonality and energy, enjoying snuggle time just as much as playtime. Kyra gives enthusiastic head butts when requesting petting – she loves to be pet and to receive head, chin and ear rubs. This sweet girl is a lap cat who will sit in your lap until you can no longer feel your legs. You can regain the feeling in your legs by engaging Kyra in one of her favorite playtime activities – wand toys. Kyra loves to stalk, chase and pounce wand toys. Once you tire out, Kyra is happy to play with other friendly kitties and wow, does she love to play! Kyra is lightning fast as she chases after other kitties and she’s just as fast when they return the favor chasing her. Kyra will thrive in a home with people that enjoy playing with her and that enjoy having a lapful of cat. A home with another high energy, playful kitty friend or two to run around with is also high on Kyra’s wish list.
Jewel is a gorgeous domestic short-haired black cat estimated to be 1-3 years old. She is an active girl with events scheduled throughout the day such as playing with toys and laser lights, but her main goal is to give her humans as much love as possible. She is a great “companion” kitty. She loves to be pet and will “make biscuits” and help you “work.” Jewel CAN be competitive for attention if you have other cats so it probably is best she be the only love of your life. Jewel is also good with children.
Bean is Havana brown, with a beautiful rare coat and greenish eyes. She is sweet and lovable, and craves attention and petting. Her hobbies include reading, tai chi, and yoga. When you call her name she likes to answer you. Currently a little chubby because she eats everyone else’s dinner including her own, Bean should be able to stay on her diet when in her new home eating “light” food.
Wobbly was born outside and caught a cold as a kitten, which vets say affected his brain so he now has a tremor. Other than that, this short-haired, gray and white kitty enjoys wrestling and playing with its foster’s gentle adult cats. He loves to be held and will purr to thank you. Wobbly is fixed, tested, and has all his shots. If interested in Wobbly, email email@example.com.
Ava, a 2-year-old Balinese, is truly a beautiful cat with her lovely coloring, soft, luxurious fur, and big, blue eyes. There is more to this girl than good looks, though. Ava is a sweet, friendly, affectionate girl with the softest meow you have ever heard. We believe she uses her enchanting meow to make you forget what you are doing and entice you into spending time with her. Before you know it, you are sitting down and your previously empty lap is now filled with a furry, purry, bundle of love. The continual purring that emanates from Ava causes you to further lose track of time and before you know it, you’ve been alternating between petting and brushing Ava’s beautiful fur coat for who knows how long.
Violet is a 1-year-old Cairn Terrier who loves everyone she meets. As a matter of fact, to get someone’s attention, she has the very cute habit of standing up and waving her front legs at them. She uses this tactic when asking for treats as well. Violet loves being with her people, especially if it involves sitting in your lap or being held in your arms. Scratch Violet behind her ears and watch her eyes close in pure ecstasy. In response to your affections, Violet snuggles even closer and offers happy doggie kisses. In addition to snuggling, other activities popular with Violet include playing with toys, other dogs, and playful kitties; going on walks; riding in cars; shopping in local pet supply stores; and hanging out with us humans at the local café.
Heather Godina always knew she wanted to complete a triathlon. She had experience in two-thirds of the event heading into her 29th birthday, with a strong background in swimming and two full marathons under her belt, so it wasn’t unimaginable to add a bicycle to the equation.
LaFawnda is a short-haired Siamese cat mix, senior female. She is a bit shy at first, but given the time to get acquainted she may be the love of your life. If you scratch her ears she’ll purr and squint her eyes with happiness. LaFawnda is a loyal and loving kitty. She’s been FELV/FIV tested negative, altered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines and housetrained.
Charlie is a beautiful, affectionate, energetic 2-year-old kitty. When she’s not directing her energy towards talking to you, snuggling with you, or trying to score a meal from you, she’ll focus her energy on a vigorous playtime! Charlie loves playtime and in particular loves wand toys of all types, be it feather wands, swizzle wands, or some other type of wand.
Adopting a pet is a great thing to do! Giving a dog or cat (puppy or kitten) a second chance can be a wonderfully rewarding experience. Unfortunately sometimes it can be quite frustrating when things don’t go as expected. Here are five things to consider before adopting a pet:
Junipurr is a young adult short-haired black and white kitty with wonderful markings. She purrs and purrs and purrs. She’s not a kitten so isn’t too crazy with energy, but she does like to be silly and play. She’s been defined as “sweet” and enjoys spending her days showing her people how much they are appreciated. Junipurr would do best in a home with another cat that is quiet ... and she seems to enjoy the company of male cats. Junipurr has been tested FELV/FIV negative, altered, microchipped, current on vaccinations and housetrained.
WASHINGTON — Using videos that claim to teach toddlers, or flash cards for tots, may not be the best idea. Simply talking to babies is key to building crucial language and vocabulary skills — but sooner is better, and long sentences are good.
