Just less than a year ago, three Ahwatukee Foothills residents decided to get serious about music and form a band. This month, that band, All is King, will represent Phoenix at an international music festival in Chengdu, China.
The sleek design of the hover skateboard Marty McFly road in the “Back to the Future” series may be fictional, but the technology isn’t. If two Ahwatukee Foothills brothers have their way every teenager just might have their own hoverboard by 2015.
“Veronica Mars” had one truly amazing season followed by two pretty good seasons. The critically acclaimed series was then abruptly cancelled, but left behind a dedicated fanbase. A fanbase so dedicated that they donated over five million dollars on Kickstarter to get a “Veronica Mars” movie off the ground. Now in the same vein of Joss Whedon’s “Firefly,” the crime solving young adult has been resurrected for a feature written and directed by series creator Rob Thomas.
Grammy-nominated country singer Jo Dee Messina has always maintained a close relationship with her fans. Most recently, they funded her upcoming album, “My Time, Our Music,” through a Kickstarter campaign that raised more than $100,000.
It doesn’t take rocket science to make the case for happiness, but a law degree from Yale sure doesn’t hurt — at least, it didn’t in the case of Gretchen Rubin, author of “The Happiness Project” and a guest columnist for Good Housekeeping magazine. In contrast to other self-help writers, Rubin addresses the ephemeral idea of happiness systematically, arguing that life’s felicities are concrete and often intuitive.
Downtown Mesa’s Arizona Museum for Youth is inching closer to becoming the i.d.e.a. Museum. The re-branding, set to launch to the public on Feb. 7, 2014, will transform the much-loved family venue with creative innovations, including — fundraisers hope — a place called The HUB.
MJJ Cashman always watched the classic Christmas film “Miracle
on 34th Street” with his family after Thanksgiving dinner. “It’s a
movie that we always started our holidays with because there was a
sincerity to it,” Cashman said.
