With the change of weather and kids recently celebrating Halloween, many kids are looking forward to the fall break, Thanksgiving and Christmas and many adults are making plans for a New Year’s celebration.
Local Girl Scout Troop 1156 has announced that all girls in the troop have been inducted into the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society. Girls in Troop 1156, which is led by Libby Bender and Anita Schanberger, include Schuyler Schanberger, Kacee Roberts and Erica Bender, who all attend Seton Catholic Preparatory High School; Anna Jacobs, who attends Horizon Community Learning Center; and Becca Waypa and Kyla Jacobs, who attend St. John Bosco Catholic School.
The city of Phoenix has recognized the first 33 FitPHX Business Award winners for completing training on strategies for helping their employees lead healthier lives. The businesses were the first participants in FitPHX’s partnership with the Healthy Arizona Worksites Program, a public health initiative of the Arizona Department of Health Services, the Maricopa County Department of Public Health and the Arizona Small Business Association.

1. Rough wrestling. Wrestling is one of the many ways that dogs have to play, but it shouldn’t be the only way they play. Too much wrestling can cause dogs to become defensive and competitive. Wrestling should have breaks with play bows and chase games to dilute its intensity.
Recently while traveling, I was listening to a local AM radio station. In between the jazz tunes that were being shared, the radio announcer enjoyed sharing heartwarming stories or quick snippets that uplift the human spirit. The announcer had a deep and silky voice and his delivery was calming, almost as if I was sitting fireside with him for story time.

Junior troops across the Valley were invited by Arizona State University’s branch of Advancing Women in Construction to learn the basics of building as they work together as a team to build a cookie wagon. Local Ahwatukee Girl Scout Troop 2263 won Best of Show.
