I would like to thank John McCain, the Republican party and the people of Alaska for bringing Sarah Palin and her family to my attention, and that of the country. In these difficult times, it’s good to know that one can always count on the Palins for a good laugh. I can just picture her screaming, as son Track gestures to the neighbors, “Don’t you know who we are?!” Priceless.

Google “A Brief History of Rappers in Soda Commercials” and “20 Best Rap Commercials of All Time.” There’s nothing inherently problematic aesthetically, creatively, or politically about non-black rapping. I am curious about the television ads and viral YouTube videos that use hip-hop solely to entertain primarily through a comedic end. Such creations beg critical exploration.
Two of our nation’s most vital means for providing food security in the fight against hunger are the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and food banks. SNAP serves 47 million people and food banks provide food to 37 million Americans.
Noelle is an exquisite 4 year old with beautiful blue eyes, lovely and distinctive markings, and the elegant build of a Lynx Point Siamese. There’s a lot more to this charming gal than just her good looks though. Noelle is a sweet, affectionate kitty who seeks attention from her people. When you enter the room, Noelle runs over to greet you and extends her paws toward you in a gesture that invites you to pet her. In addition to petting, Noelle enjoys cuddling — she even likes being held like a baby. She enjoys playing with and attacking wand toys or any toy you toss across the room.
As I follow the recent controversy over naming, identity, and cultural representation connected with the NFL’s Washington football team’s nickname and mascot, “Redskins,” I am surprised and confused that there is such vocal resistance to changing the name not just a few deem a racial slur that offends (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tag/washington-redskins-name-controversy).

Between traumatic experiences of late — whether it be Hurricane Sandy, the Aurora shootings, or a local tragedy in our family or neighborhood — are the everyday places where we dwell most often and try to make sense of our lives. As Americans ponder and strategize how not to plunge over the fiscal cliff back into economic recession, it is imperative that we arrive at plans and strategies within the context of a more complicated and nuanced sense of how we define and live our lives.
