Phyllis Tickle is a lecturer and author primarily on religion and spirituality. She has commented that roughly every 500 years the church has a rummage sale where some of the old is let go to make room for the new. She points to Gregory the Great who transformed Christian worship in the sixth century, the Great Schism in the 11th century and the Reformation in the 16th.
October is Domestic Violence (DV) Awareness month; DV takes many forms, including intimate partner violence, sexual violence, child maltreatment, bullying, suicidal behavior, and elder abuse and neglect. These forms of violence are interconnected and often share the same root causes. They can also all take place under one roof, or in a given community or neighborhood and can happen at the same time or at different stages. Understanding the overlapping causes of violence and the things that can protect people and communities is important, and can help us better address violence in all its forms.
Their plans to fix Arizona's economy may be hard to decipher, and neither Democrat Fred DuVal nor Republican Doug Ducey is precise on exactly how they think the state will permanently come up with more money for schools.

Regardless of whether you’re a man or a woman, Social Security will not — and was never designed to — provide all of the income you’ll need to live comfortably during retirement. At best, your income from Social Security will supplement your other sources.
Women are different from men. Physiologically speaking, hormonal differences begin at conception; sex hormones influence physiologic development through all ages from infancy, puberty, the reproductive years, and continuing for longevity. A man and a woman can both become body builders, but the differences in each one’s musculature, skeletal physiology or neurologic physiology will remain different. The list of physiologic differences can go on, but one of the most interesting new bits of knowledge is the greater understanding that even cardiovascular (having to do with the heart and blood vessels) physiology is different between the male and the female of our species.
The sun has just set. From where I sit, up on a ridge, I hear music from two simultaneous song sessions filling the Valley below. When campfires turn to embers, youngsters will peel themselves away from the festivities and make their drowsy way to their bunks. Their dreams will no doubt be filled with obstacle courses and tie-dye, hikes and ropes courses. Another day at summer camp is done.
Civil rights groups asked a federal appeals court Monday to let them try to block an Arizona law banning abortions based on race or gender because the statute was passed because of racial stereotypes of – and hostility to – blacks and Asian-Americans.
