When I moved to Ahwatukee 22 years ago, both golf courses in the area were green and very attractive. Now The Lakes at Ahwatukee course, I am told, is about to be closed. I live on the 11th fairway of the Ahwatukee Country Club. This course, in the last several years, has become somewhat of an eyesore. They are no longer watering up to the fence in my backyard, saying the water destroys the fence and now there is noting but dry grass/ground that is very dusty, especially when a golf cart travels along the side of the fairway. This causes a lot of dust on my patio/patio furniture and neighbors pools.

Compared to most Saturday morning cartoons, the film won’t passionately annoy parents who get dragged to the theater. But in an era where more and more adults are attending animated features without accompanying children, “The Croods” feels like a step backwards for DreamWorks.

Friends: Since there’s next-to-no chance I’ll send out Christmas cards this year, this will have to do. If you don’t see this before the 25th all the better, because I usually can’t muster the energy to find a box of Christmas cards, print address labels, write a letter that doesn’t sound bragging, smarmy, or maudlin, and then find stamps before New Year’s anyway.

Tis the season in which family problems become magnified. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, thank your lucky heritage. Mixed up in our holiday cheer is nearly always increased strain in relationships. It’s eerie. It begins to build soon after Halloween, kind of like a dust devil that stirs up emotional junk.
