Furniture Bank, Inc., in Ahwatukee has been assisting families around the Valley furnish their newly acquired home for the past two years, and the charity plans to double its initiatives after receiving it 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
The Arizona Rattlers will celebrate Alumni Day with a special player assignment and retirement for former Rattlers quarterback Sherdrick Bonner at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 20, when the Rattlers host the Portland Thunder at US Airways Center.

Kohl’s Department Stores, through its Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program, recently gave two Valley youths $1,000 scholarships toward higher education. Brittney Johnson, 12, of Glendale and Matthew Kaplan, 16, from Phoenix were chosen from more than 37,000 nominees nationwide for making a positive impact in their local communities.

What an insult! I received in the mail a glossy, full-color invitation from Pulte Homes to change our CC&R’s. Not once in the entire circular did Pulte fully acknowledge that there is a choice to be made. Not once did Pulte even attempt to rebut any of the substantial arguments and objections which have been raised, such as loss of open space, increased burdens on traffic, schools and other infrastructure, or expectations of the neighboring homeowners that their houses would border a golf course, just like when they bought them.

Assistant Secretary of State Jim Drake ruled Wednesday there is enough evidence and uncontested allegations against Attorney General Tom Horne to merit a full-blown investigation into whether he has been using state resources and employees to campaign for reelection.
