Once again, we see America supporting the “dirty end” of the political stick. We are (or soon will be) supplying money and weapons to the “al-Queda” Islamists in Syria (the Islamic state of Iraq, the Levant, Ahrar al-Sham to name a few of these crazies who practice cannibalism, beheadings and the like). Now we are to climb in bed with Neo-Nazi’s in Ukraine (Svoboda, Patriots of Ukraine, Spilna Sprava, Afgantsy and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army to name just a few).
A controversial bill passed by the Arizona Legislature has sparked conversation and debate across the nation.
Saying the legislation would be “unbelievably damaging” to the state, the head of a major economic development group is urging Gov. Jan Brewer to veto legislation expanding the ability of businesses to use their religion to deny services.
Recently, a 16-year-old Texan, named Ethan Couch, was sentenced to just 10 months probation and a year-long treatment program for driving drunk, killing four people and injuring nine. His parents are paying $450,000 a year for the addiction center, which sounds more like a resort.
Like the old saying goes, “timing is everything,” and unfortunately here is a vivid example that impacts all of us who live in Arizona. This deals with ADOT and their lack of stewardship on the monies earmarked for the proposed SMF on Pecos Road.
There’s something about the beginning of a new year that makes us feel like we have a new lease on life. Although many joke about the making and breaking of New Year’s resolutions, the University of Scranton’s Journal of Clinical Psychology released a study at the end of last year that showed those who made New Year’s resolutions were 10 times more likely to reach their goals than those who did not.
Every so often some researcher whips out his calculator and estimates how much it takes to raise a child today. I suspect that this exercise is some sort of subtle pressure from the government to cut down on overpopulation, because the Department of Agriculture says it costs a libido-crushing $241,080 to raise each of our Special Snowflakes to age 18.
HERE: Ahwatukee Community Garden Project meeting Nov. 7
In reply to the “Local African-American males speak out” (AFN, Sept. 15). These four self proclaimed “community leaders” harshly criticize Linda Turley-Hansen’s (“Not racism, and not guns; it’s moral absence that’s doing the killing,” AFN, Sept. 6) factual, if blunt, article on the death of Chris Lane, in a long diatribe that has too many racially charged slants and accusations to answer succinctly. No one is elected or appointed a “community leader.” Being highly opinionated and putting out lots of racially motivated editorial pieces does not make one a leader of anything.
You don’t have to travel far to climb aboard a steamboat cruise.
As some of you may know I have been covering the Jodi Arias murder trial as a legal expert for FOX 10 and other national TV stations. I’ve probably done over 65 TV appearances as a legal expert on the case. This case has turned out to be the biggest case of 2013 and maybe as big as the O.J. Simpson case.
Did you catch The Rev. Jesse Jackson the other night on CNN demanding a Senate hearing into why regulators never cracked down on that gruesome abortion clinic in Philadelphia?
When is the best time to get something done? There are a lot of different ways that people ask this question, but my initial reaction is: Whenever you have time to do it.
Two Arizona gun-rights groups said Wednesday that lawmakers should consider letting specially trained teachers and administrators carry guns into public schools to protect students against future attacks.
Ahwatukee Foothills resident Lisa Campbell is not your average Michael Jackson fan girl.
When a trusting young mother asks me for parenting advice I’m simultaneously flattered and terrified because while it is a compliment, it’s a lot of pressure. I didn’t Ferberize, or do “attachment,” or read Dr. Spock. I let the kids watch as much “Star Trek” as they liked, but I’m not sure that counts, so I don’t feel particularly qualified to be handing out advice.
In the latest labor report, 368,000 more Americans have stopped looking for work, artificially skewing the unemployment stats down. The recent report of 8.1 percent tricks the brain of the casual thinker. Try thinking about this: 12.5 million of your fellow Americans are out of work (Labor Department). Perhaps you are one of them or your child. See: www.money.cnn.com (2012 August jobs report).
OK, so who got the bounce from the conventions? Obama-Biden did. Initially, they received a national ratings bump of about 4 percent. As of a week later, the bounce had increased to the high single digits.
Dirty political campaigns are as old as the Founding Fathers.
Too bad Brian Beck had to waste space on the Opinion page with 10 lines stating how bad Republicans write without anything useful to offer (“Where are the Democrats?” AFN, July 18).
There’s not a lot of room for Ed Henry to make a style statement. The Fox News Channel chief White House correspondent pretty much has to stay in the box that is your TV screen.
This time four years ago, the mantra of “change” took center stage in our national political lexicon.
Well folks, the campaign has fully begun, launched by female drama; one woman publicly attacking another. However, it didn’t turn out quite the way Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen apparently hoped. Some say she got her talking orders directly from the White House when she attacked Ann Romney Wednesday night on CNN. But my guess is she didn’t need directions, she seemed comfortable in her strident remarks.
Despite the many suspicious aspects of the late February shooting of an unarmed black teenager, a mind-boggling logical fallacy by the local police department has protected the killer from arrest. According to a CNN report, the local Sanford, Fla., police failed to arrest shooter George Zimmerman in this highly suspicious killing because they had no evidence rebutting Zimmerman’s claim that he acted in self defense.
Recently, CNN reported rampant income tax fraud of a new sort. Thieves steal social security numbers then file tax returns on the accounts of these social security numbers. They then receive the refunds that were due honest working citizens. The segment went on to suggest the IRS is not doing its part to curtail such activities.
