Christmas is approaching and while we are all getting our homes ready for guests, and shopping for presents, let’s not forget about those that are not able to do so this year.
Ahwatukee Preschool once again hosted its annual breakfast with Santa on Dec. 8. The children were dressed in beautiful holiday clothing eating muffins and fruit anxiously waiting for Santa. Around 8:45 a.m., the sound of jingle bells rang as Santa entered the Family Life Center at Mountain View Lutheran Church in Ahwatukee, to the delight of the children.
I was four months pregnant with our third child on a Christmas morning I will never forget. My 24-hour "morning sickness" had failed to subside, and on top of the constant nausea, I came down with an oppressive sinus infection AND a case of the flu. I had never felt so drained and irritable - it was all I could do to drag myself out of bed to collapse on the couch and watch my family open gifts.
‘Arthur Christmas" is the new satire from Sony Pictures Animation and Aardman Animations that delves into the world of Santa Claus and how he manages to deliver all those presents in a single night. This isn't an entirely original premise. We've seen this scenario before in movies like "The Santa Clause" and the Emmy-winning Disney holiday special, "Prep & Landing." Even "Family Guy" had a hilarious Christmas episode last year about an overworked, dying Santa entrusting his sleigh and gifts to Stewie and Brian. While this idea has been rehashed time and time again, "Arthur Christmas" is still a well-executed take on the Santa Claus mythology with a unique wit and charm.
