Jeffry Hoffmeister, 31, son of Ron and Marilyn Hoffmeister and brother of Stefan Hoffmeister, passed away Oct. 2, 2014, from a sudden and irreversible brain hemorrhage that occurred Sept. 29, a month after his fourth open-heart surgery since age 14. Born April 3, 1983, he was a lifelong resident of Ahwatukee and attended Las Lomas Elementary and Centennial Middle School. Jeff grew up playing a variety of Ahwatukee youth sports and was a Pack 178 Cub Scout at Las Lomas. He was on Centennial’s seventh- and eighth-grade basketball teams, and played on the Pride’s freshman football and basketball teams before a heart valve infection and valve replacement ended his sports career in early 1998. Jeff was a 2001 honors graduate of Mountain Pointe High School and member of the National Honor Society. He graduated from ASU magna cum laude in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the W.P. Carey School of Business, and a Psychology Bachelor of Arts in 2009. Jeff was an avid sports fan and regularly attended ASU football and basketball games. He is forever a Sun Devil. His pastimes included cooking, reading, craft beer tasting, enjoying nature, pondering everything, and spending time with his friends and family. We will all miss him and his honest smile, inquisitive mind, and easygoing way. For those who remember Jeff, his parents, or his brother, a visitation with the family will be Saturday, Nov. 15, from 11 a.m. to noon in the Sanctuary foyer of Mountain View Lutheran Church, 11002 S. 48th St., Phoenix. We look forward to seeing old friends again. Those wishing to donate in Jeff’s memory can do so to your favorite charity, or to help cats at Lost Our Home Pet Foundation.
