On Aug. 13, the American Foundation for Cardiomyopathy and local businessmen Martin Sepulveda and Dave Cisiewski of M&D Partners donated an automated defibrillator to the Rio Swim Club at McClintock High School in Tempe. Sepulveda, a former ASU wrestler, presented the automated defibrillator to Rio Swim Club coach and three-time Olympic gold medalist Melissa Belote Ripley.
With a sweepstakes contest that goes through the summer, an Ahwatukee-based organization seeks to donate life-saving defibrillators to community centers, schools and churches.
The heart is actually one big muscle. But it is a specialized muscle and different from the other muscles that are attached to your bones. Where you have to purposefully make your arm or leg muscles move, the heart muscle is continuously and, hopefully, efficiently pumping away, day and night without you thinking about it.
