Avnet Inc., an electronic parts and computer products distributor, reported adjusted fourth-quarter net income last week that beat analyst expectations. For the quarter that ended July 2, Avnet earned $239 million, or $1.54 per share, compared with $141 million, or 92 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter. Revenue climbed 33 percent to $6.91 billion, essentially matching analyst estimates for $6.95 billion.
Q: Where are you from and what did you do before opening your business?
Gerald "Jerry" Ihnat of Ahwatukee was born on Nov. 13, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio. He died April 24 after a long battle with cancer. Jerry graduated from Case Institute of Technology in 1957. He also studied for an MBA at Syracuse University. He spent more than 25 years working at Hallmark Electronics (now Avnet) and also worked for Debenham Electric Co. in Anchorage, Alaska.
Julia Norgaard has earned first honors at the University of San Diego for fall 2010 and remains on the Dean's List. Ms Norgaard is a junior in Economics at USD and is a 2008 graduate from Desert Visit High School. She will be interning this summer at Avnet. Julia's parents are Clark and Jill Norgaard.
Created in partnership between Chandler-Gilbert Community College and Glendale Community College, the Associate of Applied Science in Engineering Technology degree will enable students to enter the workforce as an entry-level engineering aid upon graduation from the two-year program.
