Have you ever wondered why some butterflies have iridescent blue-black wings and a taste that’s repulsive to birds and other predators? Ron Rutowski, a Tempe resident and biology professor at Arizona State University since 1976, has too — actually, he’s spent years and traveled extensively throughout North and Central America and Australia, studying the ways color is produced, employed and perceived in the animal kingdom, particularly on ways insects use color as a visual signal and how it’s interpreted by their compound eyes.
I found out Feb. 11 that since April 2013, Medicare granted itself a 2 percent discount from doctors and medical providers with a contract with Medicare. They then sent AARP United Healthcare a form with the full payment so my supplemental insurance also did not pay the 2 percent. Meanwhile, the discrepancy had a note that local state and federal law required an adjustment.
Arizona taxpayers can hit the Legislature in their own pocket book. Individually, Arizona taxpayers can reallocate money from the state’s general fund and give it to children in foster care through the Foster Care Charitable Organization Tax Credit. This tax credit costs individual tax payers zero, and funnels money to our state’s most vulnerable children. A donation to a qualified foster care charity and the donor receives a dollar-for-dollar credit on their Arizona income tax — up to $400 for individuals and $800 for couples, with a net cost of zero.

Three years after “Insidious” introduced moviegoers to the Lambert family and its troubling connection to the spirit world, the stars and filmmakers have reunited for another installment. “Insidious: Chapter 2” picks up where the first story ended, but the sequel has enough scares, laughs and a story of its own to stand alone.
In this Sunday, July 21, 2013 photo, The Wiggles perform on stage in Canberra, Australia. Emma Watkins, in yellow, is joined in the new version of the group by original Blue Wiggle Anthony Field and two fellow newbies: Red Wiggle Simon Pryce and Purple Wiggle Lachlan Gillespie.
