Ryan Connor of Ahwatukee completed his first year at Grand Canyon University by being named to the dean’s list. Connor, who is majoring in special education, has accepted an internship at Disney World in Florida for the fall semester.
What if Louise of “Thelma & Louise” survived driving into the Grand Canyon and had a bratty granddaughter played by Melissa McCarthy somewhere down the line? You’d probably get something along the lines of “Tammy.” In the film, Susan Sarandon finds herself going along for another offbeat road trip full of crazy shenanigans, none of which take an especially dark turn like in “Thelma & Louise.” Sarandon is only the co-pilot on this particular road trip, however, playing second banana to McCarthy as the title character.
In the beginning there was dirt — and roads that were mere afterthoughts of other East Valley cities. For the most part, they didn’t lead to much of anywhere, as they dustily meandered west toward South Mountain.
Many Arizona residents aren’t from this state and, more often than not, have loyal sports affiliation with other teams — we’re talking about you, Cubs fans — so it’s not surprising that Arizona’s six professional sports teams struggle at times to generate widespread enthusiasm. The Arizona Sports Fan Expo might just change that.
