The Arizona Diamondbacks have announced two second-half concerts featuring Christian-rock band Third Day for Faith & Family Night on Aug. 23 and Mexican pop artist Cristian Castro for Hispanic Heritage Day on Sept. 27.
Over the weekend, 25 members of the Diamondbacks front office, including several executives, visited Hillsboro, Ore., to complete a two-day community service project. The group, which included the winning team from the D-backs Give Back League and the MVPs of the other eight teams, will participate in various community service projects over the weekend.
The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) has named Paul Goldschmidt as the Arizona Diamondbacks 2014 Heart and Hustle Award winner. The award honors active players who demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embody the values, spirit and tradition of the game. The Heart and Hustle Award is also the only award in Major League Baseball voted on by former players.
The Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and Parker & Sons presented a $100,000 check to Special Olympics Arizona prior to the D-backs game on July 19. The funds were raised in a joint effort between the D-backs and Parker & Sons through online donations at www.dbacks.com/everybodywins.
Many Arizona residents aren’t from this state and, more often than not, have loyal sports affiliation with other teams — we’re talking about you, Cubs fans — so it’s not surprising that Arizona’s six professional sports teams struggle at times to generate widespread enthusiasm.
