Kyrene Akimel A-al Middle School in Ahwatukee attracted local government officials and representatives on Friday morning for its 20th Annual Patriotic Day honoring veterans and service members.

American Legion Post 64 is hosting its Fifth Annual American Legion Tournament on Saturday, March 23 at the Ahwatukee Golf Club, 13431 S. 44th St. The Legion is a homeless Club, without any income from food services, which means it has to raise funds through outside events like this golf tournament.

Charles William Roloff, 97, of Phoenix passed away on March 6. He was born May 10, 1915, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Renee B. Roloff, on Nov. 17, 2004.

Hosted for the second year at the Ahwatukee Recreation Center, the American Legion invites the community to the state finals for an oratorical speech contest on the Constitution tomorrow.

Service clubs in Ahwatukee Foothills are busy year-round working on projects to help kids and families in the community but one project, honoring first responders, was big enough to bring all of them together.

Several flags were retired in honor of Flag Day at the Ahwatukee Recreation Center Thursday evening, commemorating the 235th anniversary of the American flag’s adoption.
