Why is it that the gluten-free food industry has grown at a compounded annual rate of almost 30 percent? Probably because 1 in 133 persons is now being diagnosed with a condition known as Celiac Disease. The holiday season is upon us, which can result in additional stress and anxiety due to time crunches, obligations, and demanding schedules. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is misleading the public by neglecting to mention dangerous aspects of the proposed South Mountain Freeway. Creating a truck route along Pecos Road will be disastrous for the air quality of the adjacent neighborhoods and schools. As a family nurse practitioner I am well aware of the prevalence of severe asthma and allergies among the Valley’s population. Asthma is the number one reason for school absences. Building another freeway near schools and homes will increase the pollution, escalating rates of asthma and other cardiopulmonary illnesses, thus impacting the health of all and education of our children.
For people who need to lose weight, do sugar substitutes really help? Do people with diabetes benefit by substituting products made with Sweet‘N Low, Splenda, or NutraSweet in their diet? Jax is a big beautiful boy, about 3 years old. He’s very playful and sweet. Thus far he’s gotten along with most cats he’s met. It isn’t sure if he’d be happy living with dogs. Jax has been at the shelter for quite some time so when he does get adopted the family should understand it might take him some time to adjust to a home environment. His last person ended up having to return him due to allergies. Jax would like to be brushed sometimes to keep that wonderful mane of his looking it’s best. He seems to understand there’s a price to pay for being so handsome so he doesn’t mind it.

Ben and Sundance are brother and sister and are a bonded pair. They love each other very much and need to stay together. Ben is 10 years old and Sundance is 9 years old. Both are trained, know basic commands and get along well with other dogs. Ben loves to go for long walks but is allergic to grass, and Sundance has an allergy to chicken products. They both love to sleep and cuddle and are very laid back. They are best friends and would make a great addition to any family.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine states that 40 percent of adult men and 24 percent of adult woman are habitual snorers. This common phenomenon can be very disruptive to family members’ sleep and can often cause loved ones to sleep in a separate room. What many people may not know is that snoring may be a risk factor for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and many other health problems.
