On Tuesday, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., young participants in the WiL Power Challenge, a non-profit program created by Foothills Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation to help overweight and obese children learn to live physically active lives, will get some support from local high school football players.
The Campo Verde High School football team and coach Max Ragsdale will join local sponsors in the integral part of the three-month program that challenges more than 90 Phoenix-area youths between the ages of 10 and 14 years with a Body Mass Index (BMI) in the 85th percentile or higher.
The team will guide participants in a fun football-style workout designed to improve aerobic capacity and increase muscle endurance.
All young people are presented with challenges unique to their generation. Today's youth face the dire warning that theirs may be the first generation to not live as long as previous generations due to health risks created by obesity and sedentary lifestyle.
