Mountain Pointe junior Jalen Brown is expected to play in Friday’s Desert Vista game after previously saying he was going to concentrate on football.

After an exchange of emails initiated by coach Aaron Windler about returning and the latter asked senior captains Khari Holloway Tre Campbell before moving ahead.

Brown practiced with the team on Wednesday and will bring a tenacity to the defensive perimeter.

Brown averaged 7.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.2 steals last year. He is an elite defender and should boost Mountain Pointe’s chances to make the playoffs. The Pride are 7-7 on the year and sit No. 25 in the most recent power rankings.

“I’m anxious to see what kind of shape he’s in,” Windler said. “He’s probably not in basketball shape. We’d like to have him Friday (against Desert Vista). Will we? I couldn’t tell you yet.”
