MP’s Warren headed to New Mexico State

Mountain Pointe senior Thomas Warren committed to New Mexico State on his official visit last weekend.

The 5-foot-11, 174-pound running back has been a contributor to the varsity since he was a sophomore. He finished his senior with 939 yards, including three 100-yard games, on 130 carries with 13 touchdowns.

Warren finished his career with 1,938 yards and 20 touchdowns.

The national signing day is Feb. 6.

Lacy playing in WestCoast Bowl

Mountain Pointe senior and UCLA commit Kenny Lacy is participating in the WestCoast Bowl, a newly created game featuring top football recruits, on Sunday.

The game is being played at the HomeDepot Center stadium in Carson, Calif..

Lacy is a two-way linemen and one of Arizona’s top recruits for the Class of 2013.

The two teams were chosen by a draft between the two head coaches chosen to coach the game, David Dunn of Lincoln High School (San Diego) and Manuel Douglas of Narbonne High School. The pool of players they will be drafting from have been chosen by talent, character and college potential.

Date of DV-MP girls game changed

The second meeting between Desert Vista and Mountain Pointe girls basketball teams moved up a day to Jan. 30 at DV because the boys game is being played at US Airways Center on Jan. 31.

The idea behind it is to get as many students, including the girls team, from both schools to attend the game.

D-backs FanFest set for February

The Arizona Diamondbacks will host the ninth annual SUBWAY D-backs FanFest on Saturday, Feb. 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Chase Field. The free event will offer fans unprecedented access to current players, coaches, alumni and broadcasters, including autograph and photo sessions on the field. Last year’s event drew an estimated 25,000 fans to Chase Field.

Children 12 and under will receive free autographs, while others can receive access to autograph sessions with a donation to the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation. For the first time, online autograph pre-sales for specific sessions will be made available to fans prior to FanFest.
