Most first-year club sports teams often struggle to find an identity. But that hasn’t been the case for Club SPAWN, a local baseball team that is ranked nationally. In its inaugural season Club SPAWN’s record is 69-22.

A 13U club team from Ahwatukee, Club SPAWN won the Arizona State Championship in the Majors division on June 9 at Victory Lanes Sports Park in Glendale. It’s currently ranked fifth in the country and No. 1 in the West in USSSA points.

The club team has participated in 13 championship games and earned eight titles, including seven tournament wins and a league title.

Managed and founded by Todd McFarlane, the team is coached by Russ Christ, Nate Myres and Mike Konieczny. SPAWN ends its season July 17-21 at the 2013 USSSA Global World Series in Chino Hills, Calif.
