Desert Vista senior Nicole Hicks has been selected as a finalist for the AIA Female Scholar Athlete Award in the state of Arizona for 4A/5A Division schools, and will be recognized at the AIA Champions Awards Luncheon at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale on May 19.

Hicks has a weighted GPA of 4.833, is a National Merit Commended student, and has been a key varsity member of the Desert Vista track and cross country teams for all four years of her career.

Hicks was a member of the Division I state championship team in the fall and the two runner-up teams the previous years. She was also on the state runner-up track team last spring and a key member of the State Championship 4x800 team in 2014 that went on to compete in nationals.

Hicks also performs over 30 hours of community service a year for National Charity League, National Honor Society and the Honor’s Internship Program.

Hicks has committed to Texas Christian University to run track and cross country for the Horned Frogs. She has also been awarded TCU’s most prestigious and valuable academic distinction in receiving The TCU Chancellor’s Scholarship, a selective award for the top 1 percent of admitted students who distinguish themselves both academically and as student leaders.
