University of Pittsburgh infielder Phillip Konieczny, a 2007 Mountain Pointe graduate, was named one of 30 candidates from across the nation selected for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, the selection committee has announced.

The award honors a senior who demonstrates the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

CLASS is an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, and the four areas in which the candidates must excel are community, classroom, character and competition. They must also demonstrate outstanding leadership skills.

Konieczny has earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in computer engineering in each of his last five semesters at Pitt. He is also a member of the University Honors College and boasts a 3.99 cumulative GPA at Pitt. Last season, he was named to the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District baseball team.
