The waiting process was more grueling than putting in the work to get it done, but Alex Bambic finally got what he wanted.

The Desert Vista senior was accepted into the United States Military Academy Preparatory School at West Point to continue his wrestling career.

“It was getting late into the process and I was talking to a bunch of colleges, but this was where I wanted to go,” Bambic said. “It was big relief off my chest.”

Other options were Cal Poly, Iowa State and Central Michigan. All those programs took a backseat when compared to wrestling for Army.

“The overall education and the coaches were the difference,” he said. “This is what I need.”

He will start out with the Prep Academy and if all goes well, Bambic will start his career at the Division I level with Army the following year. The prep team has its own set of coaches and schedule, but does practice with the Army squad a few times a week.

“I’ll just soak up as much as I can the first year and be ready to go after that,” the three-time state champion said.
