Desert Vista junior Dani Jones started getting national recognition after winning the Desert Twilight event at Toka Sticks in October and finished her season as a Division I champ and All-American.

By Margot Kelly, Special to AFN

Desert Vista junior state champion Dani Jones was selected as the Gatorade Arizona Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year.

She won the Division I state title and then earned All-American status at the Nike National Cross Championships in Portland, Ore. She didn’t lose a race against an Arizona opponent all season.

The recognition package Jones receives will include a trophy and formal letter from Gatorade. The school will receive a banner and trophy. As the state winner, Jones is now eligible for the national award, which will be announced in coming weeks.
