Jelks next up on national stage

Desert Vista senior Jalen Jelks will follow Mountain Pointe’s Jalen Brown and Natrell Curtis in playing in a showcase football game before heading off to college.

Jelks will represent The U.S. Under-19 National Team when it takes on Team Canada at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 7 at Maverick Stadium at the University of Texas at Arlington in the International Bowl.

Jelks, who had 10 sacks and is committed to Oregon, was selected as a defensive end.

The Under-19 competition kicks off two days after National Signing Day, when Team USA and Team Canada players will sign national letters of intent during a morning breakfast event.

Brown, who had three catches, and Curtis played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl over the weekend in San Antonio and was telecasted on NBC.
